All About Eggs

More and more Australians are taking an interest in nutrition and health and knowledge in this area is constantly improving.

So here's a tasty piece of news!

Research has shown that it is saturated fat, rather than cholesterol in foods, that has the most negative effect on blood cholesterol levels. And now all eggs carry the Heart Foundation Tick of approval to remind us that they are a healthier choice!

For more information on the Tick, please visit: www.thetick.com.au

Eggs have excellent nutritional value. They are great to include in children's diets as they provide 18 different vitamins and minerals along with the best quality protein for growing active bodies. They contain Vitamin A; all 8 of the B group Vitamins as well as Vitamins D and E. In fact, eggs supply all the vitamins except for Vitamin C. (Fruits and vegetables are the only sources of vitamin C.)

For more helpful information on egg nutrition, visit the Australian Egg Corporation's website at www.eggs.org.au

Along with their nutritional value, eggs taste great, they're inexpensive and are one of the most natural convenience foods. All the more reason that eggs should be enjoyed and included in a well balanced diet.

So what are you waiting for? Enjoy eggs today!

Keep your eggs fresh!

  • Always refrigerate your eggs after purchase.
  • Keep eggs in their cartons with the pointed end facing down. This keeps the yolk centred and prevents damage to the air cell. Eggs are always packed this way.
  • The egg cartons provide protection from damage, slow down moisture loss and help prevent the eggs from absorbing odours from other strong smelling foods.
  • To test the freshness of an egg, place it in a bowl of water. A fresh egg will generally lie at the bottom of the bowl.
  • When using eggs with other ingredients, always crack eggs into a separate container before mixing.
